The Mt. Baldy Jr. Letterbox
Placed Sept. 6, 2002
Allegan County
Saugatuck, Michigan
Mt. Baldy Jr. is the name given to a large sand dune south of the Oval Public Beach. It isn't as tall as Mt. Baldy and it doesn't have any stairs to climb, but you'll be smart to take some shoes with you in case the sand is hot.
Clues: From the Oval Public Beach, walk south along the shore of Lake Michigan about a half mile until you see a group of summer cottages overlooking the lake. Stop just before you reach the first cottage. The dune just to the north of this cottage is Mr. Baldy Jr. and you should be able to see the path very easily from the beach. Climb the dune on this path until you enter the woods and see a sign called "Inspiration Point". Leave the trail by stepping directly in back of the sign and then take 10 steps south past a young maple tree and a cherry tree to your right. Then take 3 paces toward the lake, and there you should find our letterbox nestled under some exposed roots of a large oak tree.
